Great Historical Places in the World

March 31st, 2009

Historical sites are the wonders of the world. These old monuments were constructed by ancient cultures and give us insight into our past. They help tell us our history, how we think, and how our society developed. They gives us information about societies long since dead but not forgotten. There are many historical sites in the world but the four best historic sites are Machu Picchu, Tikal, Angkor Wat, and the Pyramids. Each of these places, spread out around the world, are the remnants of once vast and powerful cultures.

Machu Picchu- Machu Picchu means “Old Peak” and is located thousands of meters above the ocean. Millions of people visit this site each year over the Incan trail to this place. This historic place is located high up in the Andes mountains and was once part of the Incan Empire. It is a world heritage site that needs to be preserved since it is considered to be a sacred place by the local people.  Not much is known about the site as it seemed to be abandoned only a few hundred years after use but many theorize it was a summer home for the Incan king.

Tikal- Situated within the Central American jungles, Tikal’s archeology and architecture, flora and thick forests are a popular tourist destination. Tikal is a world heritage site with beautiful temples that give us a peak into the lives of 7th century Mayans. Tikal was one of the biggest city states in the region and was once the most powerful Mayan state. It was lost to the jungle for centuries and has only been excavated over the last few decades. Many of its buildings still remain under the forest. The crowds here don’t come until mid-day so in the mornings, this wonderful place is all yours.

Angkor Wat- Angkor Wat and the Angkor temple complex are some the most visited tourist attractions in the world. People come from all over the world to see the remains of this lost city. It has been featured in many movies and everyone is familiar with it. Located in Cambodia, Angkor was once the capital of the Khmer civilization. Built in the 12th century, there are hundreds of temples and structures here to explore. The most famous is the main temple of Angkor Way, Bayon, and Te Phrom, the last being featured in the movie Tomb Raider. Make sure you come early to beat the crowds.

The Great Pyramids- The Pyramids are some of the oldest historical sites in the world. Located in Egypt on the banks of river Nile, the great pyramids are the major tourist attraction in Egypt. There are many pyramids in the world and around Egypt but when people talk about the pyramids, they are talking about the great pyramids of Giza. These three goliaths give us insights into the ancient Egyptian culture, one of the oldest in the world. For a small fee, you can even explore the insides of these great structures, which date back over five thousand years.

There are many world historical sites around the world that are important and should be seen by tourists. The sites listed here are the most popular. They see the most tourists and get the most fame.  Travel is very beneficial to places in the world but remember to make sure you do your best to keep these places clean for future generations.

Matthew Kepnes has been traveling for many years and his work has appeared in many major publications. He has visited all the sites listed. You can find out more about taking an angkor wat tour or visiting tikal at his website on historical sites around the world.

How To Vacation In Florida For Cheap by Christine OKelly

March 29th, 2009
The economy may be going south, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up your yearly family vacation! Instead of spending a week stranded at home, do a little planning and figure out how to take a great family vacation without breaking the bank. By booking advance tickets, choosing vacation rental homes in Orlando or any other Florida destination and traveling in the off season, you’ll be able to take a great family vacation, without sacrificing fun.

Book Advance Tickets

A simple Internet search should bring up a list of advance ticket sites, no matter where you’re going. Be careful, though, because some of these ticket sites can be fraudulent. For instance, it’s a good idea to ask the managers of the many Disney vacation rentals or other vacation rental homes in Orlando for recommendations of sites that can offer discounted Disney admission passes. Because the managers of these vacation rental homes in Orlando deal with park admission and vacationers year round, they’ll know which ones are truly a good deal and which ones should be avoided.

It’s possible to find advance tickets for many Orlando attractions, such as Universal Studios, Sea World, Disney and others. Just make sure to go with a plan and realize you may not have time to do everything you want. You won’t save any money by purchasing tickets you don’t have time to use!

Stay In Vacation Rental Homes In Orlando Or Other Florida Travel Destinations

Another great travel tip is to stay in vacation rental homes in Orlando instead of a pricey hotel inside the Disney theme park. These villa rentals in Orlando are often big enough to house an entire family in one home and are ideal for large families or groups. Additionally, because these villa rentals in Orlando are private homes, they are complete with full kitchens, saving you lots of money you’d normally spend eating out in restaurants.

It’s possible to find villa rentals in Orlando that also offer private pools, meaning you’ll be able to enjoy a day at the pool all the for price of a bottle of sunscreen. Additionally, if you have children, they will love the thrill of staying in Disney vacation rentals.

Travel In The Off Season

Although Orlando is a pleasant and family-friendly year-round destination, several times of the year are especially great to find deals on vacation rental homes in Orlando. Fantastic prices can be found during summer months from June through September. However, there are also other times of the year that are considered low season months, including April just after Easter through early June. Another relatively low season period is mid-August through mid-December. During the off season, tickets are often cheaper and you’ll have your choice of many premier villa rentals in Orlando. Additionally, you won’t have to fight large crowds often found during the winter months.

These are just a few travel tips that can save you money on your Florida vacation. Whether you’re looking to stay in vacation rental homes in Orlando or elsewhere, save big by traveling in the off season and booking your tickets in advance. You’ll still be able to have a fun vacation in Disney vacation rentals without spending a lot of cash.

Family Vacation Planning: 7 Steps to the Perfect Holiday! by Deborah Dunn

March 29th, 2009
This is your family vacation planning guide that will help you plan the perfect holiday in 7 easy to follow steps. You will have the thinking done for you so that you can focus on getting ready for your family vacation. Grab a piece of paper, a fresh coffee and get started now!

So now you are ready to do some family vacation planning! Each step requires a different heading so have a quick look ahead and write down the headings you need to consider. Write the headings down the left hand side of your page leaving a good few lines between each.

STEP 1 TRAVEL / DATES:

Decide when are you going and returning and by what form of transport. Look at everyone’s diary and find the best time that suits everyone. Consider off-peak versus peak times because this will affect many of your costs. Can you travel outside school holiday time? Do you need a short break or an extended vacation? In my experience it takes you 1 week to stop thinking about work and your regular life, one week to begin to relax and so if you need a proper rest and actually want to enjoy the vacation you have booked, stay that third week. I promise you it will be the best out of the three!

STEP 2 DESTINATION:

Where are you going? Write down the places you are hoping to get to. It’s not always easy deciding on a place that makes everyone happy though. He wants serenity, she wants good shopping. He wants to read a book, she wants some action. You could make a list of each of your top 3 and see if you agree on any? Do you have time to travel far? Think about what what you want to see and feel while you are away? Do you want to see the beach or the mountains, be in the bush or visit lots of friends? Also, do you want to rough it or need luxury? Will you camp out or stay in a hotel or somewhere in between? To help you get started you can find family vacation ideas athttp://www.organizeourfamily.com/family-vacation-ideas.html

STEP 3: ITINERARY:

What would you like to do on your holiday? Sometimes this needs to be left to spontaneity but you could at least have listed interest points of the area so when you come to a day where everyone doesn’t know what to do, you could pull out the list, compare it with the weather and decide on a fresh activity. Make sure it is a list that has been prepared by the whole family so there are activities there that everyone is interested in. If you do want to make the most of every waking moment with new experiences then definitely plan out your days.

Another point to remember is that your kids will want to be active all day and you’ll be dying for an afternoon siesta every day! Make the most of caravan parks and Hotels or Resorts that offer kids activity programs so that you can have a bit of a break too. Day 1: Day 2: Day 3: Day 4: Day 5:

STEP 4 COSTS:

You can itemise these into the following categories and make an accurate estimation of each. Make sure you do your research well so the amounts are as accurate as possible. For example, if you are driving, work out how many kilometres you will be travelling to and from the destination. Don’t forget to allow for miles travelled during that time. Then work out how many tanks of fuel that will be and how much it will cost. A family vacation becomes very stressful if you run out of money before you get home. Having fun on your vacation doesn’t have to be expensive though. Be creative!

Transport:

Accommodation:

Food: (you will probably be eating out a lot more so factor that in. Go by what and where you might eat each day per person)

Special Activities: (theme parks, park entrance fees, zoos, hire of bikes or other sport equipment…)

Spending money: (special treats like ice-creams, a gift or two, souvenir)

If you would like some ideas on family vacations that are cost effective go tohttp://www.organizeourfamily.com/cheap-family-vacations.html

STEP 5 BOOKINGS:

Make a list of all the companies you will need to make bookings with: car hire, flights, hotel, caravan park etc…and their contact details.

Company:

Cost Due:

Contact Details:

Address: (if necessary)

Special Notes: (about arrival or baggage or meeting place)

STEP 6 PACKING:

Under this section, make a list for each member of the family and think about what they would need day to day from each room of the house. Less is best so learn to give items a few different purposes if possible. Obviously the list will vary depending on your accommodation type but here are some areas to think about when planning what to pack on the family vacation. It’s good to make these lists permanent. Keep them in your Family Planner as they will make organzing your next family vacation much easier.

Family personal items:

Kitchen: (cooking, cleaning, food, matches!!)

Laundry: (buckets, pegs, ropes, washing powder)

Bathroom: (soap, towels)

Bedroom: (bedding, pyjamas!!, pillows, mattresses)

Shed: (chairs, table, stove, lights, torches, tents, outdoor gazebos)

Special Activity needs: (eg. boots & backpack for hiking), CAMERA!!

STEP 7 CARE Of PROPERTY:

Depending on how long you’ll be gone for and what you have on your property you may want to organize having your mail collected and bins put out (especially the first week when they are full or they will stink when you get back! Dad always used to have them put out so it looked like someone was around the place). Do you need pets fed, lawns to be mowed etc

Perfect Family Vacation Planning isn’t so much about having every day organized exactly but it’s really about doing things together. So make sure you do this plan together too! Experts say that a huge percentage of enjoyment from anything comes from the anticipation factor so begin this stage together!
